Klaus Huber and His Opera Schwarzerde

On November 5 at 4:00 PM, a lecture entitled “Klaus Huber and His Opera Schwarzerde” will take place at the Komitas Museum-Institute.

Speaker: Levon Hakobyan, Doctor of Art Studies, Head of the Music Theory Department at the State Institute for Art Studies (Moscow).

Swiss composer Klaus Huber (1924–2017) was one of the most prominent figures of the European post-war avant-garde. His entire legacy can be viewed as a grand cosmic (ecumenical), social, and cosmopolitical utopia, grounded in the ideas of a select group of thinkers, mystics, and poets from different eras and countries.

Nevertheless, Huber remained consistently committed to a complex, radically dissonant, and, in the truest sense of the word, avant-garde musical language, incompatible with any kind of embellishment.

From 1989 onwards, the prose, poetry, and biography of Osip Mandelstam acquired particular significance for Huber. This creative trajectory culminated in his opera Schwarzerde (2001, Basel).

Admission is free.
