“Hover” State Chamber Choir

The “Hover” Chamber Choir is open to all manifestations of the chamber choral genre. The Choir has presented many choral performances, large-scale traditional and experimental vocal-symphonic, operatic and chamber projects.
The Choir collaborates with the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra (ANPO), the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia (NCOA), the Armenian State Soloists Ensemble, as well as with the “Yerevan Perspectives” International Music Festival. The repertoire of the Choir is versatile and diverse. “Hover” is the initiator and the first performer of a number of works by Armenian composers: V. Sharafyan, A. Avanesov, A. Azizyan, Y. Yerkanyan, S. Yerkanyan, S. Babatorosyan.
The Choir has recorded seven CDs. “Hover” took part in recording soundtracks for “Ararat” (directed by A. Egoyan), “La masseria delle allodole” (“The Lark Farm”, directed by the Taviani brothers), “Namus” (restored version of the ARTE studio), and other films.
The “Hover” Choir appeared with concerts in Italy, France, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Russia, Poland, Taiwan, Belgium and the USA. It has taken part in a number of competition festivals. It has appeared in such prestigious concert halls as the Teatro Dal Verme, Cite de la Musique, Le Quartz, Тhéâtre Nanterre-Amandiers, Strathmore Hall, Carnegie Hall and, at MIDEM, Beiteddine Art Festival, the International Music Festival of Sion Valais, Emilia-Romagna Festival, Südtirol Festival, and participated in prestigious ceremonies, the last one being the Aurora Prize in April 2016.
“Hover”’s performances of compositions by S. Gubaidulina, R. Shchedrin, K. Penderecki, G. Kancheli, as well as number of other prominent contemporary composers gained great appreciation. The “Hover” Chamber Choir has appeared with a number of prominent musicians among whom: G. Kremer, A. Mustonen, R. Shervenikas, D. Geringas and J. Nelson.
Starting from 2011 “Hover” continues its activity as a member of the National Center of Chamber Music. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of its professional activity, the “Hover” Chamber Choir was awarded a gold medal of the Ministry of Culture of Armenia. The “Hover” Chamber Choir also performs as a septet for special occasions comprised of its male members. As the “Hover” septet it appears at various prestigious festivals and halls (last time in March 2016 at Imago Dei in Austria).
Starting from 2013 the general sponsor of the “Hover” State Chamber Choir has been VivaCell-MTS Company (CEO R. Yirikian). This circumstance initiated a new, significant stage for the Choir, promoting its creative activity, presenting conditions for the realization of its versatile ideas and projects in full volume. The Choir was founded and ever since has been conducted by Assistant Professor of the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, Honored Worker of Culture Sona Hovhannisyan.
